AAPdN will be holding its Annual Conference virtually in April 2026. This call for abstracts via abstract submission will detail instructions for how to prepare and submit abstracts for review by AAPdN. All abstracts must be related to the professional practice of pediatric neuropsychology or its underlying scientific basis. Posters will be presented virtually at the Poster Session throughout the Conference.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR PREPARING ABSTRACTS FOR THE AAPdN MEETING

There are four categories of abstract submissions:

      • 1. Original Research
        2. Literature Review
        3. Theoretical/Commentary

        4. Case Study

Original Research abstracts will include all prospective and retrospective professional pediatric neuropsychology studies that involve testing a hypothesis by collecting and analyzing empirical data. They may also include a study of a small group of common patients.

Literature Review abstracts should provide a scholarly discussion of a specific professional pediatric neuropsychology topic via a review of contemporary research literature that results in a synthesis of literature leading to new insights on the topic addressed.

Theoretical/Commentary abstracts are about any topic related to professional pediatric neuropsychology including, but not limited to: public policy, trends in pediatric neuropsychology, assessment and treatment strategies, brain mechanisms of action, and methodological issues.

Case Study abstracts are a structured summary of a clinical case that provides insight into the assessment process, diagnosis, treatment outcomes or theoretical understanding. Case studies highlight the uniqueness of the case and its application to pediatric neuropsychology.

STRUCTURED REQUIREMENTS FOR ABSTRACTS:

Original Research abstracts should include background and rationale, objectives/hypotheses, methods, results, conclusions and implications. The methods section describes the subjects (diagnoses, demographics), instruments (pediatric neuropsychological test measures) and the procedure (research design) used in the study. The results section should describe the statistical analyses and the levels of statistical significance and/or effect sizes obtained. PLEASE NOTE: Original Research abstracts WITHOUT collected AND analyzed data at submission will be automatically rejected

Literature Review abstracts should include objectives, sections on data selection and data analysis, and conclusions. The data selection should include the criteria used to choose data sources and explain how data was extracted. The data analysis section should outline the methods used to analyze the data and summarize the key findings of the literature review. PLEASE NOTE: Literature Review abstracts WITHOUT collected AND analyzed data at submission will be automatically rejected

Theoretical/Commentary abstracts should include a title, background and rationale, theoretical proposition, clinical or educational relevance, conclusion and future direction. The discussion section should describe the theoretical issue/comment related to (but not limited to) public policy, trends in pediatric neuropsychology, assessment and treatment strategies, brain mechanisms of action and methodological issues. These elements should directly reflect the topic of the abstract.

Case study abstracts should include background and purpose, case description, assessment findings, and discussion/implications.

All abstracts must be submitted electronically to this link All information will be required in the electronic submission. By submitting the abstract, you will need to assert that in the case of Original Research, Literature Review, and Case Study abstracts that all data described in the abstract have been collected prior to submission and were collected in an ethical manner, that IRB approval was obtained when applicable, the abstract had not previously been presented at a regional, national or international meeting, and that all co-author(s) have reviewed the abstract and agreed to be listed as co-author(s).

INSTRUCTIONS ABOUT REVIEW PROCEDURES

All submitted abstracts will be reviewed by the AAPdN Abstracts Review Committee based on the following criteria: relevance to pediatric neuropsychology, methodological adequacy, conceptual clarity, and significance of the findings for pediatric neuropsychology. The AAPdN Abstracts Review Committee includes members holding the AAPdN Diplomate who are also published researchers in pediatric neuropsychology.

Notification of acceptance or non-acceptance will be sent by E-mail on March 1, 2026 or earlier to the E-mail address of the first author who submitted the abstract.  The submitting author is responsible for informing any co-authors regarding acceptance or non-acceptance of the submitted abstract.  All abstract acceptance decisions of the AAPdN Abstract Review Committee are final.

ABSTRACT PRESENTATIONS OF ACCEPTED WORKS

By virtue of submitting an abstract for review, the author(s) agrees that if the abstract is accepted for presentation, at least one of the named authors on the work will attend the assigned Poster Session virtually, at the presentation time to present their work. Presentation time will be finalized when the final schedule is posted, and is typically for 1.5 hours after the last workshop on Friday.
