CLINICAL RESEARCH AND GRANT AWARDS PROGRAM

AAPdN is pleased to announce its Clinical Research and Grant Awards Program, which aligns with our mission and values. We are committed to providing students, post-doctoral fellows, and early career pediatric neuropsychologists with funds to support research endeavors that advance the science of pediatric neuropsychology. 

1. Eligible Applicants.

A. Membership in AAPdN is not required.

B. Must be an undergraduate, graduate, doctoral student, Post-doctoral fellow, or early-career Neuropsychologist (licensed for 1-5 years)

2.  Scope of Research 

A. Research applications must be focused on the application to the science and practice of pediatric neuropsychology.

B. Research must meet established ethical standards and may not involve harm to animals.  IRB approval from their institution (employment or school) or an independent IRB is required. 

C. Dissertations and pilot projects will be considered.  

3.  Covered requests

A. Covered under this grant, at the discretion of the Research and Grants Committee, may include:

i) Materials necessary for the administration of testing, including consumables and non-consumables.  Non-consumables may be required to be attained on a lease basis, with any machine-based items, such as computers, iPads, or test batteries. AAPdN reserves the right to request the return of funded equipment.  

ii) Money is allocated for materials such as small rewards for subjects, e.g., small toys or candy, for delay of gratification or choice/reward investigations.

iii) Money for incentives for subject participation.

iv) Reasonable travel expense support for the grantee to report on their research project at the AAPdN Annual Conference.

v) Fees for research, such as articles behind paywalls, after all other attempts are exhausted.

vi) Acquisition of support services, such as a Statistics analyst.

4.  Grant Awards and Funding Cycle:

A. AAPdN is allocating up to $10,000 for the inaugural grant cycle.

B. The maximum award is up to $10,000.

C. Aspirational intent is to award at least two (2) grants, with one student/fellow and one early career award, at the discretion of the Research and Awards Committee. 

D. The total amount awarded per grant application is contingent upon the committee’s discretion based on the needs identified in the grant application(s). 

E. A budget is required and should be submitted with the application.

F. Funding Cycle: FY July 1 - June 30, consistent with AAPdN FY.

G. The timeline for the Initial Granting Cycle:

Notification of Awards

March 15, 2026

Initial funding cycle begins

5.  Application Process

A. Prepare NIH biosketch (MAX 5 pages)

i) Personal Statement

ii) Positions, scientific appointments, and honors

iii) Contributions to science

B. Complete application (includes CV, project information, and work sample)

C. Two (2) letters of support from supervisor, mentor, director of department if applicable, or professional peer as requested by the R&G Committee.

D. Budget for the project

E. Mentors will be provided if needed

F. The review board will consist of five (5) diverse individuals who have expressed an interest in serving on this committee from varied backgrounds and expertise levels, and will include members from underrepresented groups. 


6.  Expectations

A. Upon completion of the project, the Grantee shall write a manuscript for consideration of inclusion in the Journal of Pediatric Neuropsychology (JPNP), with JPNP retaining the first right of refusal. (Exceptions will be considered if the grantee is interning or working at an established lab that requires a different journal).

B. Research grant recipients will present their projects at the AAPdN’s Annual Conference as a symposium or poster.
